  • A 27-year-old Bridgeville man was arrested Sept. 1 following a traffic stop that yielded drugs and a gun.
According to the Delaware State Police, the incident occurred around 12:45 p.m. as a trooper on patrol in the area of U.S. Route 13 and Del. Route 24 in Laurel observed Brian E. Walker operating a white Chevrolet Cobalt with a shattered front windshield. Police said a traffic stop ensued.
The trooper reportedly completed the required paperwork to issue a citation and returned to the vehicle to explain it. Police said Walker was asked to step out of the car due to some suspicious activity occurring inside the vehicle. Police said when Walker was asked if he had any weapons on him, he reportedly fled on foot into a wooded area behind the Lakeside Hotel, where he was taken into custody without further incident. Police said upon searching Walker, he was found to be in possession of a loaded .40 caliber handgun as well as 557 bags of packaged heroin weighing almost 14 grams. Police said a computer check revealed the handgun was reported stolen Aug. 16 from a residence on Carey’s Camp Road near Millsboro.
Walker faces numerous charges, including possession with intent to deliver heroin, carrying a concealed deadly weapon and resisting arrest. He was committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on $75,201 cash bail.
