A 77-year-old Bridgeville man was arrested Nov. 2 for his 11th driving under the influence of alcohol offense.
According to the Delaware State Police, a trooper was traveling southbound on Coverdale Road just north of Hastings Farm Road in Bridgeville around 6:40 p.m. when a truck in front of him began traveling above the posted speed limit and entered into the northbound lanes numerous times. The trooper activated the emergency equipment on the patrol car and the truck turned left onto Hastings Farm Road where it came to a stop in a private driveway. Upon contacting the operator, identified as Ruppert Bell Jr., the trooper observed signs of impairment and a DUI investigation ensued.
Police said Bell was arrested for seventh offense DUI after six prior, driving after judgment prohibited, driving while suspended or revoked, failure to remain in a single lane and speeding. He was committed to Sussex Correctional Institution in default of $16,102 cash bond.
