The fourth annual Diamond State BBQ Championship will not just feature competitors vying to make the best barbecue east of Kansas City. The Delaware Strongest Man Contest will be the featured event for the BBQ Championship scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 17 at Dover Downs Hotel & Casino.

Five events for the North American Strongman (NAS ) sanctioned platinum level competition will include the log press, a yoke walk, the farmer's walk, max deadlift, and atlas stones. Divisions include men’s, light men’s and women’s.
As for the Diamond State BBQ Championship, 75 BBQ teams are registered to compete in this official event on the Kansas City Barbecue Society championship circuit. They are vying for $15,000 in prize money in beef brisket, pork, pork shoulder and chicken categories.
Applications to enter as a competitor are still being accepted and may be obtained at www.doverdowns.com.
The Kent County Chamber of Commerce will also host the Big Boys Toys Show featuring showcases RVs, motorcycles, automobiles, boats, four-wheelers, hot tubs, pools, spas and more. There is still time to sign up to be a vendor; forms may be obtained through the Chamber website at www.cdcc.net.
Entertainment will be featured all day, including a Battle of the Bands on the main stage, children’s area, pit-stop challenge (tire change), NASCAR simulator, radio control cars with prizes and trophies, Oktoberfest Village featuring German music, Dover High School drumline, and the Delmarva Studebaker Drivers Club classic and muscle car show.
Serving up great food and BBQ by Smoke’n Dudes BBQ, PA Midnight Smokers, Youngs BBQ, Bunting’s Popcorn, Vitali’s Water Ice, Jake’s Hamburgers, The Fry Girls, Herschel Walker’s Famous 34 Ribs, plus beer can chicken, beef brisket sandwiches, Bratwurst, knockwurst, spaetzle, German beer and much more.
Gate admission is $7. Children 12 and younger will be admitted free when accompanied by an adult. A special VIP Tent ticket is $35 and includes admission to the BBQ event, two drink tickets, BBQ buffet with selections prepared by past champions, a chance to rub elbows with celebrity guests and a VIP drawing for an electric smoker and other prizes.
