Can you, sports fans, believe that we are already at the end of the regular season? It’s true though, week 10 is here and so are rivalry games.
Playoff tickets are about to be punched as well, with all but the Henlopen Conference automatic bids pretty much on the line. What we do know is Sussex Central won the North, Lake Forest the South, and those clubs are in the Division I and II tournaments, respectively. It’s a safe bet that the Golden Knights will be the No. 6 seed and on the road, the Spartans though could finish as high as No. 2.
Anyway, like I said before, we still have some games to pick this week and your Sussex Swaam would like to go out on a high note, so…
Indian River at Sussex Central: Neither of these teams have much to play for, as the Golden Knights are in their tournament as a six no matter what and the Indians are probably out of theirs even with a victory. Still, these two teams are district rivals, so the pride factor will be high.
Although the Knights will likely rest some of their players and try to get them healthy for the playoffs, I just can’t see IR stopping those who do play. Give me Central by at least three touchdowns, 35-12.
Polytech at Sussex Tech: What was once a promising season for the Ravens after they knocked off Sussex Central has turned into a disaster. Tech has lost four straight and will not make a repeat performance in the DI playoffs.
Actually, Tech has to win here to finish .500 on the season, and while Poly isn’t a giant obstacle, it is better than what some thought the Panthers would be. Still, I’ll take Tech here by a touchdown, as senior Desmond Sivels gets the ball early and often in his last game as a Raven. 35-20, Tech.
