Sussex Tech softball lost for the first time this season when Caravel came to Georgetown and staged a late rally to tie the Lady Ravens and eventually win in extra innings.
Caravel’s Arielle Bragg came through in the top of the sixth with the Lady Buccaneers’ first hit of the game and drove in a run that tied the game at 1-1. In the eighth frame, Emily Neal drove in the game-winner with a single.
Tech’s one run came courtesy of a Julie Merritt RBI in the bottom half of the second.
Later in the afternoon, Saturday, Ravens took out their frustration on visiting Archbishop Spalding (Md.), which Tech blasted 9-1.
Tech (11-1, 7-0 Henlopen) got a pair of hits and two RBI from senior Kelsey Doherty, while classmate Logan Pavlik doubled twice. Devon Bitler had two hits and scored twice for Tech, while winning pitcher Kim Smith also drove in a pair of scores with two hits. Smith, who went eight innings against Caravel in the earlier game, went all seven against Archbishop Spalding.
