Doris Lee Coffin Spicer, age 79, of Laurel passed away peacefully with her sons at her side on January 4, 2012 at the Delaware Hospice Center in Milford, after a prolonged illness.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, James “Jim” Dyson Spicer. She was the daughter of Paul A. and Helen Harris Coffin of Laurel, who also preceded her in death.
Doris graduated from Laurel High School in 1950. Following graduation, she was employed by the DuPont Company. She then went on to work at Conaway Motors for more than 20 years as a bookkeeper. After retiring, she worked at the Delaware State Senate and the Department of Elections.
Doris was a loving and devoted mother and grandmother who always found time to attend any events in which her grandchildren participated. She will be remembered as a lady that always carried herself with dignity and entertained others with her infectious laughter. Doris was a great friend to all.
Mrs. Spicer is survived by her two sons, James B. “Brad” Spicer and wife Joy, and Kenneth “Ken” B. Spicer and wife Matia; six adoring grandchildren, Blair and wife Brittany, Jordan, Summer, Sierra, Kody and Rebecca; and a great-granddaughter, Brooke Spicer.
A Funeral Service at St. Philips Episcopal Church 600 S. Central Ave. Laurel, DE 19956 was held on Monday, January 9, 2012. A viewing was held on Sunday evening at the Hannigan, Short, Disharoon Funeral Home, Laurel, DE.
The Rev. Dr. Howard Backus officiated. Interment was in Odd Fellows Cemetery in Laurel followed by a luncheon at the church.
