Ralph Vincent Lowe, Sr. age 81, of Georgetown, Delaware, died peacefully, surrounded by his loving family at Beebe Medical Center on Sunday afternoon, February 19, 2012. He was the son of the late Lorenzo Burton Lowe and Helen Mae (Oliphant) Lowe, also of Georgetown and his two sisters were the late Hazel Lowe Brumbley, and the late Shirley Lowe Lockerman. He attended Millsboro High School.
Ralph was preceded in death by the love of his life, his wife, Helen Elizabeth (Phillips) Lowe in March 2008. They met in 1947, married in 1950, and then shared many happy years of marriage together raising their family, and operating a family farm near Georgetown for over 26 years. They were members of Wesley UM Church. He proudly served in the United States Army from 1952 to 1954. Ralph was employed as a manager for 29 years at the former Swift and Company in Georgetown and then he started employment with the State of Delaware at Stockley Center, retiring after 15 years of service.
Ralph will be greatly missed by his loving children: his son, Ralph Vincent Lowe, Jr., and his wife, Faith, of Georgetown, and grandchildren, Melissa, Jordan and Joshua Lowe; his daughter, Denise Elizabeth Burns, and companion Barry, of Long Neck, and grandchildren, Jason and Dustin Burns; and his daughter, Patricia Lowe Deptula, and her husband, James, of Georgetown, and grandchildren Jaime and Jessica Deptula, and Steven and Douglas Taylor. He also leaves behind seven beautiful great-grandchildren, Chloe, Zoey, Vivian, Liam, Kara, Julian, Violet, and a new great-grandson due for arrival in May 2012. He is also dearly loved by his sister-in-law, Nancy A. Phillips. Ralph was dedicated to his family above all else, and touched their lives deeply with his devotion and constant generosity. He will be forever remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather.
Ralph enjoyed playing weekly bingo with his friends from Adult Plus at the Sussex County Cheer Center and having a weekly slots time with friend Harry. He loved spending time at gatherings with his family and friends. He found great happiness utilizing his “green thumb” to grow many beautiful plants over the years. He loved to cook, especially desserts, and to watch his favorite television shows, American Idol, Dancing with the Stars, Wheel of Fortune, and Lawrence Welk.
