Anna “Keene” Marvel passed away Tuesday, March 20, 2012. She was born October 9, 1916 on a farm near Fenwick Island.
She was the daughter of the late Lemuel and Mary” Kitchens” Keene.
She graduated from Selbyville High School. She trained as a register nurse at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Philadelphia. She worked for Dr. Van Vaukenburg and also worked as a substitute school nurse.
Mrs. Marvel was a member of Bethesda United Methodist Church and a member of Georgetown Circuit United Methodist Women where she served as Treasurer and President.
She was a member of the University of Delaware Extention Homemakers Club, the Georgetown Historical Society and, Delaware Agricultural Museum. Mrs. Marvel volunteered at the Georgetown Aid Robinhood Thrift Shop and she was an avid gardener, seamstress and a marvelous cook. She traveled extensively visiting all 50 states and traveling to Europe. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, James Marvel, who passed away on February 27, 2012, her siblings, Clarence Keene, Elizabeth Keene, Gertrude Ringler, Erwin Keene, and Olda Parsons.
She is survived by daughters and sons-in-laws; Carole and Ted Palmer, Milton, DE, Monta and Jack Kutchen, Salisbury, MD, Melinda and Gayle Gulick, Aiken, SC and nine grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 24, 2012 at 2 p.m. In the Chapel of Short Funeral Services, Inc., 609 East Market Street, Georgetown, Delaware where friends may call an hour earlier.
Interment will be in Union Cemetery, Georgetown.
