  • Alva B. Jones, formerly of Milton and Georgetown, passed away Saturday, March 31, 2012, at Brandywine Assisted Living, in Rehoboth.  She was 91.

  • Alva B. Jones, formerly of Milton and Georgetown, passed away Saturday, March 31, 2012, at Brandywine Assisted Living, in Rehoboth.  She was 91.
    Alva was born in Milton, daughter of the late Alfred S. and Addie (Millman) Betts.
    She retired from Arrow Safety Device, where she worked as a machine operator.
    Alva was a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Georgetown and the VFW Ladies Auxiliary.  She was well known for cooking delicious chicken and had won several cooking contests, including the Delmarva Chicken Festival, with her recipes.
    In addition to her parents, Alva is preceded in death by her husband, George Harold Jones.
    She is survived by two daughters, GeorgeAnn Jones-Broth and husband Dr. Stuart Broth, of Richmond, Va.; and Billie A. Collins and husband Gerry, of Savannah, Ga.; three grandchildren, Michael Elliot Broth and wife Brionna, Heather Collins Villemaire and husband Tom, and Paul Jason Collins and wife Lara; three great granddaughters, Anastasia and Alexandra Collins and Shelby Villemaire; and a host of nieces, nephews and extended family.
    A funeral service was held on Tuesday, April 3, 2012, in the chapel of Short Funeral Services, 416 Federal Street, Milton with visitation after.  Burial was in Union Cemetery, Georgetown.
