  • Central’s Mykala Steele pitched a strong game, striking out 8 batters helping the Golden Knights to a 15-4 win over Indian River.
The win improves Central’s record to 4-1 on the season.
Katie Warrington went 2-3 with 2 RBI, 3 runs scored and 2 walks. Cyndie Givens pitched in a homerun and 3 RBI going 2-4 at the plate.
The Golden Knights struck first, quickly loading the bases against Indian River pitcher Rachel Hudson in the first inning. Next, Central’s Mackenzie Murphy smacked a bases-clearing double into the right field corner to give the Golden Knights an early 3-0 lead.
Indian River would score runs in the 2nd and 4th innings to bring the deficit to 4-2 but it’s as close as they would get. Central would put up a 7-run inning in the 5th and tack on another 4 runs in the top of the 7th to wrap the game up.
Now, Central is hitting a tricky part of their schedule. Before the month of April is over the Golden Knights will play 6 more games, 4  of which will be on the road. Including trips to Maryland and Virginia to play away games against Nandua High School and Archbishop Spalding High.
During that six game stretch they’ll take on three conference foes in Dover, Smyrna and Milford.  While Dover has yet to win a game Smyrna and Milford are a combined 8-2 this season.
Since losing a tough opener 6-4 to Sussex Tech the Golden Knights have won four in a row. During that four game win streak they’ve outscored their opponents 48 to 8, so there’s no need to look to far ahead if that kind of play continues.
