Someone is stealing golf carts from various Long Neck-area neighborhoods and dumping them into the Delaware Bay, according to state police.
Delaware State Police spokesman Master Cpl. Gary Fournier said troopers are investigating the nighttime thefts, which began earlier this month and increased last weekend.
The first incident occurred at the Pot-Nets Lakeside neighborhood on July 9, while eight more golf carts were stolen from yards in the Pot-Nets Bayside and Pot-Nets Seaside neighborhoods on Friday and Saturday, police said.
The owners of the golf cats have included men and women between the ages of 39 and 77.
Fournier said the culprits have caused several thousands of dollars in damage.
