A 43-year-old Seaford man died and his 5-year-old son was seriously injured during a single-car crash near Blades on Saturday.
Javier Aceves was driving a 1996 Nissan Maxima west on Del. Route 20, about a quarter mile from U.S. Route 13, at about 8:45 p.m., when the car went off the road into a wooded area, according to state police.
The car struck several trees, tearing off the vehicle’s roof and driver’s side door, and ejecting Aceves and his son Christopher, who was not properly restrained, police said.
Javier Aceves was pronounced dead at the scene.
Chistopher Aceves was initially taken to Nanticoke Memorial Hospital in Seaford before being transferred to Alfred I. DuPont Hospital for Children in Wilmington, where he was listed in critical condition as of Sunday, police said.
Route 20 was closed for about three hours while state police cleared the crash scene.
The crash remains under investigation, police said.
