  • State police are investigating a two-car crash near Laurel that killed a Seaford man and injured a Georgetown woman on Monday.
Police said the crash occurred on Concord Road, just east of Pepper Road, at about 7:30 a.m.
Ceprano L. Briddell was driving a 1995 Mazda 626 through a curve east on Concord Road when he entered the westbound lane, according to Delaware State Police spokesman Master Cpl. Gary Fournier.
Bridell attempted to regain control of the Mazda by swerving hard to the right but over-corrected, forcing the car back across the westbound lane and onto the shoulder, where it collided with a 2009 Toyota Sienna driven by 36-year-old Georgetown resident Meredith L. Phillips-Woodard, Fournier said.
Phillips-Woodard reportedly saw the Mazda coming toward her and slowed down before pulling to the shoulder in an attempt to avoid the collision.
Fournier said the impact pinned Briddell in his vehicle. After being extricated, he was taken to Nanticoke Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Phillips-Woodard also was taken to Nanticoke, where she was treated for non-life-threatening injuries and released.
Both drivers were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash, Fournier said.
Concord Road near Pepper Road was closed for more than three hours while police investigated and cleared the crash.
