  • Lighting strikes are blamed for seven fires Aug 25-26 in Sussex County totaling more than $1 million in damages.
    Aug. 25
    4:39 p.m. 7700 block of Armiger Drive, Hill-n-Dale Development, $25,000 in damages; 6:01 p.m. 24000 block of Hollis Road, Georgetown, $10,000 in damages; 6:51 p.m. 28000 block of Martins Farm Road, Milton, $15,000 in damages; 10:11 p.m. unit block of Waterford Lane, Selbyville, $5,000 in damages; 11:04 p.m. 37000 block of Johnson Road, Selbyville, $800,000 in damages.
    Aug. 26
    12:36 a.m. in the unit block of Inlet View Court, Bethany Beach, $50,000 in damages; 1:32 a.m. 37000 block of Eagle Run Lane, Delmar, $300,000 in damages.
    One additional fire in Harts Landing, Lewes, which occurred around 8 a.m. on Aug. 26, is still pending.
    The Delaware Fire Marshall’s office continues to investigate.
