An Ellendale teenager was charged Friday in an early-morning burglary at the Delmar Speedway, while his two accomplices remain on the loose, police said.
Brandon Hearn, 17, was arrested at the race track, while warrants have been issued for the arrests of Ellendale resident Thomas L. Bowman Jr., 23, and Seaford resident Charles T. Brewington, 23, according to Delaware State Police spokesman Master Cpl. Gary E. Fournier.
Troopers were alerted to the burglary by an automatic alarm at Delmar Speedway, 37854 Sussex Highway, that was activated about 1:15 a.m.
Responding officers made contact with one of the race track’s owners, who reported that the lock on the front gate had been cut off, Fournier said.
During a search of the property, troopers found Hearn behind the wheel of a black Pontiac Grand Am that was parked next to the gas pumps near the drag strip.
They later learned that Bowman and Brewington also were involved in the burglary, but managed to flee the area, Fournier said.
The trio reportedly managed to break into three sheds and the race tower, causing damage to the locks and the buildings.
Hearn is charged with burglary, possession of burglary tools, conspiracy, theft, criminal mischief and criminal trespassing. He was released to the custody of a parent.
Bowman and Brewington are wanted on the same charges. Bowman also is wanted for violating his probation.
Anyone with information about the whereabouts of Bowman or Brewington is asked to call Delaware State Police at (302) 337-1090 or Delaware Crime Stoppers at (800) TIP-3333.
