  • State police are asking for the public's help in locating a Millsboro-area man wanted in connection with an attempted armed robbery in the Long Neck area earlier this month.
William I. Satchell, 30, is accused of pistol whipping a 23-year-old man during an armed robbery attempt in the 27000 block of Chris Drive in the River Winds neighborhood at about 7:30 p.m. on Sept. 3.
According to Delaware State Police spokesman Master Cpl. Gary Fournier, the incident began when Satchell demanded money from the victim while armed with a handgun.
When the man was unable to provide any cash, Satchell reportedly used the gun to strike the man across the face.
The victim managed to run away and hid in a nearby wooded area until Satchell left the area, Fournier said.
That armed robbery attempt is believed to be unrelated to a similar armed robbery attempt in the same neighborhood that resulted in a 25-year-old man being shot in the leg about 12:40 a.m. on Sept. 13, Fournier said.
In that incident, the victim reportedly went to check on his girlfriend's car after hearing noises outside his home in the 27000 block of Chris Drive.
After opening the car door, the victim was pushed inside the vehicle and held at gunpoint while two other suspects rifled through the passenger side of the car, police said.
The victim managed to back away from the gunman and had turned to run when the gunman shot him in the upper thigh, police said.
The gunman then struck the victim in the head with the pistol before he and his two accomplices ran off, Fournier said.
The gunman in that incident is described as black, between 5'8" and 5'10" and about 160 to 180 pounds. He last was seen wearing grey camouflage.
No description of the other two suspects is available, Fournier said.
Anyone with information about that shooting, or Satchell's whereabouts, is asked to call Delaware State Police at (302) 856-5850, ext. 219 or Delaware Crime Stoppers at 1-800-TIP-3333.
