  • A 32-year-old homeless man was arrested Saturday after he allegedly used a gun to rob a Millsboro man at a Long Neck gas station.
The mugger, Gary B. Laskowski, knew his 50-year-old victim, who was able to identify his assailant to police and describe the getaway vehicle, according to Delaware State Police spokesman Master Cpl. Gary Fournier.
An officer with the Millsboro Police Department stopped the vehicle near State Street in Millsboro a short time later and arrested Laskowski, who was found with loaded handgun and a hypodermic needle, Fournier said.
According to police, Laskowski approached the victim while he was pumping gas at Uncle Willie's BP Gas Station at 32369 Long Neck Road about 6:18 p.m.
Laskowski reportedly pointed a black handgun at the man and demanded money. The victim told the mugger, who he knew as "Gary," that he didn't have any money, prompting Laskowski to reach into the man's pockets and remove an undisclosed amount of cash, Fournier said.
Laskowski then got into a blue Ford Explorer with Delaware plates and fled the area.
The Millsboro officer who stopped the Ford found Laskowski in the passenger seat and the loaded handgun on the back seat, Fournier said.
The female driver of the Ford was detained but later released, he said.
Laskowski, meanwhile, was charged with robbery, theft, various weapon-related charges, reckless endangering, tampering with physical evidence and delivery of a hypodermic needle.
He is being held at the Sussex Correctional Institution in Georgetown on a $78,500 cash bond.
