  • The owner of Hitchens Auto Sales near Georgetown apprehended an armed robber Monday immediately after the gunman tried to stick up the business, according to police.
Aaron R. Jefferson, a 27-year-old Millsboro resident, entered the used car dealership at 12769 Seashore Highway, northeast of Georgetown, about 2:45 p.m. and removed a handgun waistband while demanding money from a female employee, Delaware State Police spokesman Master Cpl. Gary Fournier said.
The 54-year-old woman began screaming for the owner, prompting the would-be robber to flee, Fournier said.
Jefferson got as far as the front door, where he was met by the unidentified 50-year-old owner, who was armed with a metal pipe.
The owner forced Jefferson to the ground and held him there until police arrived, Fournier said.
Police later found Jefferson in possession of drug paraphernalia, he said.
Jefferson is charged with attempted robbery, possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a felony and possession of drug paraphernalia.
He is being held at the Sussex Correctional Institution on a $120,100 cash bond, Fournier said.
