  • The Sussex Central Golden Knights overcame an early 21-7 deficit to defeat the Dover Senators on Friday night, 41-29.
Dover opened the scoring on an 87-yard touchdown pass from Ian Gory to Nick Spadafino. The Golden Knights would respond when Sha'Quandas Murray scored from 20-yards out.
The Senators would tack on two more scores before the end of the 1st quarter. Donovan Cain would run one in from the goal line and Gory would find Jordon Robinson on a 65-yard pass to give Dover a 21-7 lead after one quarter of play.
After giving up 21 points to the Senators, the Sussex Central defense would shutout Dover for the rest of the half. The Golden Knights offense would lead a long drive late in the second quarter, capped off by a 1-yard touchdown run by Amontay Clanton cutting the Dover lead to 21-14 at the break.
In the 3rd quarter, the Golden Knights would take the lead after Jacob Miller scored on a 2-yard run, RB Keith Jones would run in for a two-point conversion to give Central the lead by 1.
After a Central defensive stop, the offense would take over with a chance to increase their lead, and they would do just that.
Murray would strike for his second score of the game, this time from 16-yards out, to put Central up 29-21.
Dover would tie the score after a Donovan Cain 1-yard run, capped off by a 2-point conversion caught by Robinson from Gory.
In the fourth quarter, the Golden Knights would score twice. Shawn Savage and Jones would tally rushing scores for Central. Attempts to score two failed after both scores.
However, it wouldn't matter as the Golden Knights defense would continue to stay strong, keeping the Senators off the scoreboard in the final stanza to preserve the Henlopen Conference victory.
