A 30-year-old Milton man died Monday after his motorcycle struck a tree west of Lewes, according to police.
Mark E. Lillquist was operating a 2002 Yamaha YZF600R motorcycle on southbound Sweetbriar Road, less than a mile north of Pinetown Road, about 10:06 p.m. when he lost control while negotiating a slight curve in the roadway, Delaware State Police spokesman Master Cpl. Gary Fournier said.
The motorcycle crossed the northbound lane and exited the east side of the roadway where it struck a tree, ejecting Lillquist into a wooded area
Lillquist, who was not wearing a helmet, was taken to Beebe Medical Center in Lewes, where he was pronounced dead, Fournier said.
The crash remains under investigation.
Sweetbriar Road was closed for about three hours while police investigated the crash and cleared the roadway.
