  • A Bridgeville police sergeant is accused of stealing cash from an evidence locker at the police department's headquarters.
Allen Parsons, a 54-year-old Bridgeville resident, was arrested by special investigators in the Delaware Attorney General's Office on Oct. 3, two days after a Sussex County grand jury handed up a one-count indictment charging him with theft over $1,500, according to a state department of justice spokesman.
"Theft under any circumstance is against the law, but theft for personal gain by an individual in a position of public trust is even more troubling and harmful," Delaware Attorney General Beau Biden said in a release.
The attorney general's office began investigating the missing cash after being contacted by the Bridgeville Police Department in July.
The exact amount of the missing money is still under investigation.
Following his arrest, Parsons was released on a $3,000 unsecured bond.
He is no longer employed by the Bridgeville Police Department, officials said.
