A 46-year-old man was shot to death in his Millsboro-area home Monday and police say it was his step-son who pulled the trigger.
Clifford Paynter Jr. and his step-son Cullen B. Phillips, 24, were engaged in an argument at 26270 Doc Frame Road, when the younger man retrieved a rifle from his car and shot Paynter in the chest, according to Delaware State Police spokesman Master Cpl. Gary Fournier.
A family member in the house called 911 to report the shooting about 1 p.m.
Paynter was pronounced dead at the scene.
Phillips reportedly fled the home on foot, heading east.
He is remained at large as of noon on Tuesday and police were asking for the public's help in locating him.
Phillips is described as black, about 5'8" and 180 pounds, with black hair, possibly dreadlock, and brown eyes.
He is believed to be armed and dangerous and anyone who comes into contact with him is directed to call 911.
Police said Phillips would be charged with first-degree murder and possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a felony.
