The local Home Instead Senior Care and other community organizations will run the Be a Santa to a Senior program through Dec. 10, collecting and distributing gifts to seniors struggling with poverty and loneliness.
Holiday shoppers are asked to pick up an ornament off one of the Be a Santa to a Senior Christmas trees, buy items on the list, and return them unwrapped to the store along with the ornament attached. The Home Instead Senior Care office will then enlist the volunteer help of its staff, senior-care business associates, non-profit workers and others to collect, wrap, and distribute the gifts.
Christmas trees will feature ornaments will be placed at the following locations: Boscov's, 3000 N. Dupont Highway, Dover; CF Schwartz, 1536 N. Dupont Highway, Dover; Delmar Town Hall, 100 S. Pennsylvania Ave., Delmar Md.; Dover Mall, 1365 N. Dupont Highway, Dover; Dover Public Library, 15 E. Loockerman St., Dover; Dr. Deakyne, Halpern Eye Associates (all locations; Hometown Drugs, 16819 S. Dupont Highway, Harrington; Kmart, 515 N. Dupont Highway, Dover; Nobles Pond, Nobles Pond Crossing, Dover.
The gift wrapping parties will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Dec. 11 at Modern Maturity, 1121 Forrest Ave., Dover and from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Dec. 13 at the Cape Henlopen Senior Center, 11 Christian St., Rehoboth Beach. For more information, visit www.beasantatoasenior.com.
