  • Members of the Georgetown Arts & Flowers civic group spruced up the planters throughout downtown Georgetown on Monday morning.
    Armed with garden snips, bows, sprigs of holly, magnolia and cedar, the group put a festive touch on the municipal planters around The Circle, along East Market Street and in front of the Georgetown Post Office on South King Street.
    The organization also announced a fundraiser to purchase new planters, as well as plans to sponsor a children’s art show in the spring.
    Georgetown Arts & Flowers is currently seeking donations to purchase a dozen new planters that will be installed on both sides of East Market Street, as well as plants to fill them.
    The installation of the new planters will coincide with a Spring Children’s Art Show planned for May. Arts & Flowers co-founder Joy Sikora said artwork from students in fourth through eighth grades will be hung in store windows along East Market Street, with residents voting for prize winners in several categories.

    The next Georgetown Arts & Flowers meeting will be at 6 p.m., Dec. 10 in the Georgetown Public Library at 123 W. Pine St.
