Six Boy Scouts earned their welding merit badges during Sussex Technical High School’s eighth grade open house last month.
The program, organized by district business director Ed Seibert and taught by school welding instructors Jim Friedel and Mark Abbott, required the scouts to pick one of three career opportunities in the welding industry. The scouts then researched the education, training and experience required for each profession.
The scouts also completed hand-on training, successfully completed six welding projects and learned about several safety requirements and practices used by welders.
The Boy Scouts who participated in the class were Robert Marsh, Connor Weaver, Drew Fox, Sean Davis, Chris Fox and Quinn Humes.
