  • A 64-year-old Milton man is in critical condition after his pickup truck struck a tractor-trailer and a utility pole near Bridgeville on Monday morning.
Clarence A. Fisher Jr. was initially airlifted to Beebe Medical Center in Lewes before being flown to Christiana Medical Center, police said.
Fisher’s 45-year-old male passenger was taken to Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury, Md. where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries and released.
The driver of the tractor-trailer, 55-year-old Kenneth G. Stearrett of Lewes, reportedly did not require medical attention.
State police said the crash occurred at the intersection of Oak and Redden roads, east of Bridgeville, about 9 a.m.
Fisher was driving a 2009 Chevrolet pickup truck north on Oak Road when he ran a stop sign and struck the passenger side of Stearrett’s 2005 International tractor trailer, which was heading east on Redden Road, according to state police.
The tractor-trailer, which was carrying a full load of live chickens from Mountaire Farms, swerved to the left before overturning in the roadway.
The collision forced Fisher’s pickup to spin clockwise before it struck a utility pole and finally came to a stop in the grass north of Redden Road.
The crash remains under investigation. A state police spokesman said alcohol is not believed to have been a factor.
Redden Road from Deer Forest Road to Chaplains Chapel Road was closed for nearly six hours as police investigated the crash and cleared the roadway.
