Sussex Central High School's three-week book fair last month raised $3,200, school officials announced last week.
The school's first-ever book fair, themed "Raising Reading," included an online sale that ran from Nov. 26 to Dec. 10 and an in-school sale that ran from Dec. 10 to Dec. 14.
Students and staff promoted the fair through in-house television book talks, promotional flyers and a coin donation drive.
Scholastic Inc., which promised to extend a line of credit to Sussex Central if the school reached its fundraising goal of $2,000, now will provide $840 in cash and credit toward the purchase of books for the school library and classrooms.
The textbook company also will donate $200 worth of books to needy children in the United States on behalf of Sussex Central.
