  • Georgetown Public Library will soon be equipped with a new projection screen and a flat screen television thanks to a recent grant from M&T Bank.
“We were hoping to acquire the equipment so groups could make presentations in our meeting room and kids and teens could watch movies,” Dottie Teixeira, president of the library’s board of directors said. “While looking for funding, we learned M&T Bank has a grant program that supports community activities so we sent in an application.”
Officials from the bank arrived Friday to present the library board with a check for $2,500.
“M&T is proud to support the community we serve,” said Rob Bunting, the bank’s team leader of business banking. “We’re just glad to have this opportunity to give back and partner with the Georgetown Library in that regard.”
M&T Bank also presented the Frankford Public Library with a $2,500 check on Jan. 17.
Frankford library director Liz Hamilton said the grant would be applied toward an ongoing expansion project that will more than triple the size of the roughly 1,900-square-foot branch. The project, which began last month, is slated for completion this summer.
“It’s being funded through several private grants we’ve received, as well as through state funding,” she said. “We’re really growing and every little bit helps.”
Teixeria said the Georgetown library board also is seeking out additional grant funding and donations to pay off a low-interest U.S. Department of Agriculture loan it used to purchase furniture for the library when it opened at 123 W. Pine St. in 2010.
“We’re also hoping to raise funds to purchase new exterior doors for the library’s entrance,” she said. “The ones we have now are not automated, which makes it difficult for our handicapped patrons to access the library.”
Anyone interested in making a donation to the Georgetown Public Library is asked to call branch director Elaine Fike at (302) 856-7958.
