Edward C. Pettit of Georgetown passed away on Wednesday, February 13, 2013 in Christiana Hospital. He was 80.
Mr. Pettit was born the son of the late Martin S. and Mildred (Covington) Pettit. Ed served his country with the US Navy. He worked for Nelson Swain Construction prior to 1970, and then worked for Sears for 24 years as a repairman, retiring in 1994.
Ed was past Commander of the American Legion Post #8 and a long time member of Grace United Methodist Church, Georgetown. He loved boating and clamming with family and friends and was also known as “Handy Ed” and could fix anything. Ed also made a custom walking stick each year to be auctioned at the Georgetown Fire Company’s Annual Oyster Eat.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie S. Pettit, a brother M. Royston Pettit and a sister, Betty Frances Hearn.
He is survived by a son, Edward H. Pettit and his wife Jacquelyn of Milford, a daughter, Jane Pettit Scheftner of Lewes, and 2 step grandchildren, Todd Hosmer Jr. and Lianne Hosmer.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, February 16, 2013 in the chapel of Short Funeral Services, 609 E. Market St. Georgetown, where friends may call after 11:00 AM. Burial will be in Conley’s Chapel Cemetery near Angola.
