Sussex Master Gardeners announce workshop schedule

The Sussex County Master Gardeners recently announced its scheduled of upcoming workshops at the Carvel Research and Education Center near Georgetown.

The schedule includes the follow events:

March 7 – Plants with Winter Interest in Your Garden

Eddie Filemyr and Gayle August will share and discuss a selection of ships, trees and perennials that could become winter stars in your garden.

March 12 – Tools & Tips

Ingrid Hetfield will discuss how to choose the best tool for garden, as well as tips for sharpening and maintaining them.

March 26 – Soil Tests, Taking the Tests, Using the Results

Tracy Mulveny will discuss soil tests, why they’re important and how to use the results.

April 9 – MAHVELOUS Moss

Mary Hall will discuss the advantages of having moss in your landscape, its environmental needs and care, companion planting and examples of how to use it.

April 30 – Master Gardeners Demonstration Garden

A panel of Garden Committee members will discuss the successes and failure in the demonstration garden last year and plans for the coming season.

May 15 – Growing Healthy Snacks

Ana Dittel and Linda Peters will discuss the nutrition values of small fruits and vegetables that can be grown in your garden.

June 13 and June 20 – Hypertufa

This $15, two-part workshop will guide attendees through the process of making hypertufa containers from a mixture of cement, sand and water.

June 25 – Herbal Vinegars

This $15 session will include tips on the selection and preparation techniques for herb and their use in flavored vinegars.
