  • Administrators, teachers and students at Sussex Technical High School near Georgetown are preparing for the launch of a new partnership between the school and Widener University that will allow students to take college-level courses prior to graduation.
This month, students are choosing their classes for the 2013-2014 school year, including eight Widener University courses that are being offered for the first time through a five-year Early Career and College Partnership (ECCP) announced last year.
Each of the five Arts and Sciences courses and three Education courses will allow students to earn at least three college credits and one high school credit, simultaneously.
Entering juniors can participate in the cohort program, which includes all eight courses, while entering juniors and seniors can participate in the elective program, which includes a choice of the courses.
The courses will be taught by Sussex Tech faculty approved by Widener University or by Widener University-approved adjunct faculty.
Some of the courses will be offered online during the day in a Sussex Tech computer lab.
While there is no cost associated with registration, enrollment or textbooks for the ECCP courses, some of the courses do require material or activity fees.
Parents of students interested in the ECCP courses must attend an onsite registration at Sussex Tech from April 29 to May 3. Students must participate in a one-morning College Orientation and Acceleration Program during Senior Project Week in May, as well as a one-day Summer College Orientation and Acceleration Session at Sussex Tech.
For more information about the ECCP courses, contact the high school at (302) 856-0961.
