Sussex Technical High School’s Raven Nation Marching Band will be travelling overseas in December to perform in London’s 2014 New Year’s Day Parade and Festival.
Sussex Tech is one of only two high school marching bands in Delaware – and only 14 in the United States – to be invited to perform in the event. Middletown’s Cavalier Marching Band will be joining Sussex Tech in London.
The Lord Mayor Angela Harvey of Westminster, England, officially presented the invitation to band director Harvey Bullock Jr. during a visit to the Georgetown-area school on Feb. 25.
London’s New Year’s Day Parade and Festival attracts about 750,000 people and is watched on television by nearly 300 million viewers, making it twice as large as the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City.
The band plans to leave for London on Dec. 28 and return on Jan. 4.
A fundraising effort is underway to help defray the cost of the trip and will include a special event on May 11.
Anyone who would like to help the Raven Nation Marching Band make the trip is asked to contact Bullock by calling (302) 856-0961 or emailing him at firstname.lastname@example.org.
