  • Sussex Academy students take top awards at two events

  • Students from the Sussex Academy of the Arts and Sciences took top awards at the Odyssey of the Mind Bay Region Tournament on March 2 and the Sussex County Science Fair on March 4.

  • Students from the Sussex Academy of the Arts and Sciences took top awards at the Odyssey of the Mind Bay Region Tournament on March 2 and the Sussex County Science Fair on March 4.
    Two teams from the Sussex Academy competed at the Odyssey of the Mind tournament at Sussex Central High School. Team A tied for first place out of 17 teams in the “It’s How You Look At It” competition. Team B took second place out of 19 teams in “The Email Must Go Through” competition. Both teams will now move on to the state-level tournament in Smyrna on March 23.
    Five Sussex Academy students also earned top-three awards at the Sussex County Science Fair at Cape Henlopen State Park.
    Seventh graders Kierstin Blatzheim earned first place, Kira Short took second and Mia Kwan picked up third in their grade level, while Colden Fees and Cohen Davis won first and second place, respectively, among the eighth graders.
    Blatzheim also picked up awards from the American Association of American Women and the Delaware Department of Agriculture. Short received an award from Tidewater Utilities, Fee was honored by the Center for Inland Bays and Sarah Ashmore received recognition from DNREC.
    The five place winners will be heading on to the Delaware Valley Science Fair in Philadelphia on April 3, when they will face students in sixth through eighth grades from Delaware, Pennsylvania and New Jersey.
