Key Returning Players: Emily Collins, Kyle Lundgren, Andrew Howard
Season Outlook: The Golden Knights Golf team returns for another season on the links, looking to improve upon their 5-8 overall record last season. Central has a number of returning golfers from last season. Seniors James Bailey, Emily Collins and Kyle Lundrgen look to lead a talented group of underclassmen led by Andrew Howard, Shawn Mears and Kyle Fritz. Also, the Golden Knight look for some improvement from some newcomers like Jordan Walls, Chase Dorey, Ben Pettyjohn, and Bryce Molnar.
From the Coach: “We would like to finish the season with a winning record,” said Central Head Coach Shawn Tidwell. “We want to put ourselves in the position to win every match that we are in; we would also like to qualify the whole team for the state meet. As long as we keep improving, I see a great future for Sussex Central Golf.”
School: Sussex Tech High School
2012-2013 Record: 13-2
Head Coach: Cline Scrivner
Key Returning Players: Alex Bennington, Patrick Gaskin, Josh Mohun
Season Outlook: The Sussex Tech Golf team went an impressive 13-2 as a team last season and will return three of its top standouts from last season. Team captain and fourth year player Josh Mohun leads a group of returnees including juniors Alex Bennington and Patrick Gaskin. Mohun is expected to compete for both the Henlopen Conference and State Championships. Even after losing 3 seniors from last year’s squad, Tech believes they can still compete at a very high level with their returnees and newcomers entering the fold this season.
From the Coach: “After losing three seniors from the team last year and bringing on only three freshman players last year, rebuilding was the term I was using before this year’s tryouts began,” said Sussex Tech Head Coach Cline Scrivner. “Fortunately, a strong turnout for tryouts in early March has given us both a chance to compete at a high level as a team this year as well as the ability to build and keep a strong team with the addition of four promising freshman for the next few years.”
