  • School: Sussex Central High School
    Nickname: Golden Knights
    2012-2013 Record: (14-4)
    Head Coach: John Wells
Key Returning Players: Mackenzie Murphy, Paige Atkison, Mykala Steele, Katie Warrington
Season Outlook: Last season, the Sussex Central Girls Softball squad finished with an impressive 14-4 record, and advance past the 2nd round of the DIAA State Tournament. They enter this season having lost only 3 seniors from last year’s squad, including Taylor Murphy and Patricia Harrington. While it won’t be easy to fill those holes, Central does have a large portion of their core returning. Standout on the mound Mykala Steele returns for her senior season along with many position players who are another year wiser. Once again, the Golden Knights look to contend in the Henlopen North.
    School: Sussex Tech High School
    Nickname: Ravens
    2012-2013 Record: 14-4
    Head Coach: Chester Davis
Key Returning Players: Ashton Tomlinson, Julie Merritt, Nicole Ullman, Emily Pusey
Season Outlook: The Sussex Tech Softball squad had a tremendous season last year, finishing with a 14-4 record and then advancing all the way to the State Championship game. They enter the 2013 season having lost 4 seniors from last year’s squad, including Kimberly Smith and Cassidy Taylor. Returnees Ashton Tomlinson and Emily Pusey will look to fill the void on the mound, while Julie Merritt will monitor short stop and Nicole Ullman will manage things behind the plate. The Ravens return a very solid squad and should certainly contend in the Henlopen Conference.
From the Coach: “We’d like to make a run at the Conference Championship,” said Head Coach Chester Davis. “And we’d like to do well in the tournament.”
