School: Sussex Central High School

Nickname: Golden Knights

2012-2013 Record: 4-11

Head Coach: Patrick Kilby

Key Returning Players: Pam Cruz, Nicole Lebedz, Angelica Perez, Jennifer Garcia, Gabby Barrios, Diana Escalante, Addy Urgo

Season Outlook: Even though they finished a disappointing 4-11 last season, the Sussex Central Girls Soccer squad will see a large majority of their core returning. That core is a very young one led by the only two seniors on the squad, Pam Cruz and Nicole Lebedz. Juniors Angelica Perez, Gabby Barrios, and Addy Urgo hope to contribute along with sophomores Jennifer Garcia and Diana Escalante. Central also has two freshmen starters who have been added to the fold, Cindy Juarez and Goal Keeper Destiny Morton. With youth comes growing pains, and Central can be sure to go through some this season. However, the program is growing slowly and boasts plenty of up and coming talent.

From the Coach: “We are very young but we are looking to continue our slow but steady growth,” said Head Coach Patrick Kilby. “We are looking to improve on our record and develop our younger players. And, we expect to be competitive.”

School: Sussex Tech High School

Nickname: Ravens

2012-2013 Record: 11-3-1

Head Coach: Carlos Villa

Key Returning Players: Rebekah Warrington, Haley Cherrix, Michelle Laz, Natalie Sava

Season Outlook: The Sussex Tech Ravens Girls Soccer squad had another solid season last year, finishing 11-3-1 and returning to the State Tournament where they advanced to the 2nd round. The Ravens boast 14 returning players this season, 10 of which have played in the State Tournament over the last three seasons for Sussex Tech. All-State players Rebekah Warrington and Haley Cherrix will lead the way for Tech while Michelle Laz, the team’s leading scorer returns along with Natalie Sava who led the team in assists a year ago. The Ravens are also looking for contributions from newcomers Dylan Bryan and Sheila Artiga who according to Head Coach Carlos Villa have shown they can help secure the midfield for the Ravens and create opportunities for the offense, as well. New Goal Keeper Leslie Fazio will look to make some noise in between the pipes this season.

From the Coach: “We expect our players to be consistent in effort and attitude,” said Head Coach Carlos Villa. “To work hard and to never take the opportunities that are given to us for granted.”
