  • A three-vehicle crash on Route 9 west of Cool Springs Road in Milton on Friday around 10:30 a.m. left two people injured.
Delaware State Police said 51-year-old Clifton W. Walther of Milton was operating a 1986 Chevrolet Econoline Van eastbound on Route 9 when for unknown reasons he drifted into the eastbound shoulder, where he struck a parked 1983 Motor Corporation trash receptacle truck. Police said the force of the impact caused the van to spin in a clockwise direction and back into the eastbound lanes of Route 9, where the van was struck in the rear by a 2012 Buick Verano operated by 79-year-old Donald D. Newson of Georgetown. Police said both vehicles came to a stop in the middle of the roadway, causing it to be blocked in both directions.
Walther, who police said was not properly restrained, was ejected from the vehicle. He was removed from the scene by emergency services personnel and transported to Beebe Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries. Walther was cited for inattentive driving.
Newson, who police said was properly restrained, was also transported to Beebe Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.
The operator of the parked truck was not in the vehicle at the time of the crash.
Police said the roadway was closed for about two hours while the crash was investigated and cleared.
