A 36-year-old Ellendale woman was taken into police custody on April 23 after allegedly causing a vehicle crash at the intersection of Route 113 and Seashore Highway in Georgetown.
According to the Georgetown Police Department, Heather Webb was operating a 2002 Hyundai Sonata eastbound on Seashore Highway around 12:45 a.m. and failed to stop at the red light at the intersection of Route 113. Police said Webb continued eastbound through the intersection at a high rate of speed, crossed over into the westbound lane on Bridgeville Road, and sideswiped a 2002 Chevrolet Impala and a 2004 Cadillac SRX. Police said Webb continued eastbound and stopped in front of Boulevard Ford, where she fled the scene before police arrived. Police said witnesses observed Webb walk toward the rear of the dealership, where police found her hiding beneath a vehicle. Police said her breath smelled of alcohol and she admitted to drinking alcohol earlier in the night.
Police said Webb was transported to Milford Memorial Hospital for further medical evaluation. She was treated and released back to the police. The operators and passengers of the Impala and Cadillac were treated by emergency medical personnel and were released on the scene.
Police said Webb was charged with DUI, leaving the scene of a property collision accident, and several other traffic violations. She was committed to the Sussex Correctional Institute in lieu of a secured bond.
