  • Sussex County Habitat for Humanity will break ground on its third new home being built this year on May 1 at 9 a.m. on the corner of Church Road and Route 20 in Seaford.
This new home will be built on an adjacent corner lot next to another Habitat home built a few years ago. Currently, Habitat has two new homes under construction on King Road in Seaford that are being built primarily by college students as part of Habitat's Collegiate Challenge Program.
In addition to the ground breaking, Habitat will offer a project blessing, which is done prior to the start of every new project to "ask God's blessings upon the entire project, the family and all the volunteers, the donors, and supporters who will help make the dream of home ownership become a reality," according to a Habitat news release.
The partner family; Vania Lopez and her four children Natalie, Miguel, Elijah, and Ahman; will participate in the blessing and during the next few months of construction of their new simple, decent, and affordable home. Lopez will contribute 250 hours of "sweat equity" on her new home and other Habitat projects. She will also participate in monthly partner family classes that focus on topics such as finance and home ownership. After the home is built, Habitat will sell it to Lopez, who will agree to pay a 30-year not-for-profit mortgage.
