Work on upgrades at the intersection of Route 9 and Race Street in Georgetown began April 24 and is anticipated for completion by May 24, weather permitting.
The Delaware Department of Transportation, in conjunction with Kriss Contracting, is upgrading the existing signal and adding mast arm poles, pedestrian signal displays, crosswalks, and American Disabilities Act ramps at all four corners of the intersection. The upgrade, according to DelDOT, will also include the use of ornamental mast arm and pedestrian signal poles to keep with the historical theme of the area.
Shoulder restrictions will occur between the hours of 9 a.m. and 3 p.m., Monday through Friday. Motorists should use caution for the shifting of traffic and construction personnel at the intersection.
