A fire that occurred around 11 p.m. on April 23 on Cottage Circle in Laurel is currently under investigation by the Delaware State Fire Marshal’s office.
According to the fire marshal, the Laurel Fire Company, along with assisting fire companies, extinguished the blaze inside the two-story dwelling. The lone occupant of the house was rushed to Nanticoke Memorial Hospital in cardiac arrest. The victim was pronounced dead at the house.
The cause of the fire’s origin is still under investigation. Damage was estimated at $25,000. There were no other reported injuries. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will determine the victim’s cause of death.
