  • A Georgetown man died Wednesday morning after he was injured in a single-vehicle crash on Jones Store Road in Millsboro.
According to the Delaware State Police, the accident occurred around 3:15 p.m. on Tuesday as a 1986 Ford F150 pick-up truck was traveling north on Jones Store Road, which is about one-and-a-half miles south of Hardscrabble Road. Police said for unknown reasons, the vehicle exited the right side of the road and then came back into the northbound lane before the operator over-corrected, causing the vehicle to roll on its left side and onto the roof before sliding into a drainage ditch. Police said prior to any responder arriving at the scene, both occupants were outside of the vehicle.
Police said 54-year-old Jay Kerley and 57-year-old Thomas Phillips, both of Georgetown, were removed from the scene by emergency services personnel and were transported to Nanticoke Memorial Hospital. Police said Kerley was treated and released, while Phillips succumbed to his injuries and died around 10:20 a.m. on Wednesday.
The DSP Collision Reconstruction Unit is continuing their investigation into this incident, and the operator of the vehicle has not been confirmed. Police said alcohol may have been a factor in the crash. Jones Store Road was closed for about three-and-a-half hours as the crash was investigated and cleared.
