An 18-year-old Georgetown man was taken into police custody May 10 in connection to a shooting that sent a man to the hospital.
According to the Delaware State Police, troopers responded to Duffy Street in West Rehoboth around 7 p.m. on May 10 for a report of a fight at a large outdoor gathering with shots fired. Police said upon arrival, troopers located an 18-year-old Harrington man suffering a gunshot wound to the leg.
Police said a preliminary investigation indicates that three subjects – 18-year-old Rakeen R. Conquest of Georgetown, 23-year-old Derrick Sewell of Millsboro, and 22-year-old Precious I. Tiggs of Ellendale arrived at the party and confronted the victim. Police said a physical altercation occurred between the victim and Conquest, with Conquest allegedly producing a handgun. Police said during the altercation, the victim was able to knock the handgun from Conquest's hand. Police said Sewell allegedly pushed the victim backwards while Tiggs retrieved a second handgun from their vehicle. Police said she handed the weapon to Sewell, who allegedly fired one round, striking the victim in the leg. Police said all three subjects then fled the scene in their vehicle, and the victim was transported by ambulance to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Police said around 11:20 p.m. the same night, they were able to locate Conquest in Georgetown, where he was taken into custody without incident.
There are active warrants out for the arrests of Sewell and Tiggs. If either of them are spotted, residents are asked to call 911 immediately.
