Leolga Wright, the incumbent in this year's Indian River School District board of education election, has secured her District 3 seat in a landslide victory.

Unofficial results from the Sussex County Department of Elections reflect a total of 578 votes for Wright and 119 votes for her challenger, Paulette Rappa of Long Neck.

The seat carries a five-year term.

Wright was appointed to the IRSD BOE in July 2012, replacing Randall L. Hughes, who moved up to the state BOE.

"It feels good to be elected by my community because before, I was appointed," Wright said after the results were announced. "I'm proud of it and I just want to make sure I give my community the same support they gave to me."
