The First State Community Action Agency’s Adult Culinary Arts Training program graduated seven students on May 14 who completed 16 weeks of rigorous training.
Students received the National Restaurant Association ServSafe Manager Certification in safe food handling, as well as the state’s Alcohol Beverage Commission Server Training. They also completed many hours of hands-on prepping and skill development, learning to create menus and dishes. Students gained extensive knowledge on food service management and marketing, and completed job shadowing and internship opportunities at local job establishments.
Since July 2012, 20 students have graduated from First State’s culinary program.
The program provides basic culinary training, job skills development, and food service certification to Sussex and Kent County adults ages 18 and older. The program prepares unemployed, underemployed, and adults looking to change careers to food service and is funded by the Delaware Department of Labor.
