A 31-year-old Laurel man was arrested on May 19 for allegedly shoplifting from the Georgetown Wal-Mart.
According to the Georgetown Police Department, officers were summoned to Wal-Mart in reference to store employees detaining a disorderly Katrial West, who had allegedly been caught shoplifting. Before police arrived on the scene, West reportedly fled the store in an easterly direction. Police said a search of the area was done and West was found lying down behind a tree on N. Bedford Street Extended. As police were ordering him to stand up and walk out to them, West allegedly fled again through a field on the northeast side of the street. Police gave chase and were able to catch him in the field.
Police said further investigation revealed that West is alleged to have shoplifted numerous items from Wal-Mart in March and fled out of the garden center door. Store employees identified him as being involved in the March incident. West was also banned from being on Wal-Mart property from an incident that occurred at the Seaford store.
Police said West was charged with criminal trespass, possession of shoplifter’s tools, shoplifting, disorderly conduct, and resisting arrest. He was committed to Sussex Correctional Institute in lieu of bond with a future court date.
