  • Donna B. (Van Auken) Green, died suddenly on Saturday, May 25, 2013.  She was a lifelong resident of Georgetown and the daughter of the late Vernon and Betty (Betts) Van Auken.
    Donna graduated from Sussex Central High School in 1978.  She worked for Tastee Freeze in Millsboro during her teen years, for Karl Haller, Attorney-at-Law, and then began working at the Sussex Correctional Institution in 1978.  Donna was secretary to the warden of the prison for 32 years, retiring in 2010.  Upon retiring, she worked part-time during the tax season for Sombar & Company with her dear friend, Sandi L. Johnson.
    Donna is survived by her husband of 31 years, J. Dennis Green; a daughter, Suzanne (Green) Lewczak and husband Chris and their daughter, Angela; a son, J. Alan Green and wife Jennifer (Taylor) Green, and their daughter, Mikayla.  She is also survived by her brother, James L. Van Auken, and sister, Kay (Van Auken) McClenny, both of Georgetown, and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
    Donna helped start the legacy of the Pool Southern Ladies Up To Something group whose members include: Jill (Gardner) Hitchens, Wendy (Hitchens) Byram, Cheryl ((Spicer) Workman, and Vicki (Lewis) Lecates.
    A funeral service will be held Friday, May 31, 2013 at 1:00pm in the chapel of Short Funeral Services, 609 E. Market Street, Georgetown, with visitation from 11:00am – 1pm.  Burial will be in Union Cemetery, Georgetown.
    Family and friends are encouraged to come to Donna’s home following the graveside services for food and fellowship.
    Flowers are accepted or contributions in Donna’s memory can be made to the charity of your choice.
