  • A 40-year-old Georgetown man was arrested on May 31 for allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol.
According to the Georgetown Police Department, officers observed a vehicle being operated by Edwin Garcia stopped in the roadway on N. Race Street facing oncoming traffic and blocking traffic. Police said at about 6:15 p.m. they attempted to stop the vehicle, but Garcia allegedly failed to stop. Police said Garcia then travelled southbound on N. Race Street and turned east onto Depot Street, continuing to drive on the wrong side of the road. Police said they were able to get Garcia to stop in a private driveway on Cedar Street.
Police said an investigation revealed that Garcia was driving under the influence of alcohol. When being questioned, police said Garcia provided a false name. Police said it was discovered Garcia had an outstanding warrant for failing to pay on a fine. Police said Garcia had a blood alcohol content of .263, which is over three times the legal limit.
Police said Garcia was charged with DUI, disregarding an officer’s signal, criminal impersonation and several traffic violations. He was committed to Sussex Correctional Institution in lieu of bond.
