A 28-year-old Georgetown woman was arrested June 12 after she allegedly left her two children alone in an apartment on N. Railroad Avenue.
According to the Georgetown Police Department, officers were contacted by the husband of Sofia Chilel-Niz around 9 a.m. after he received a call at work advising that she left their two children, ages five and three, unattended. Police met the husband at the apartment and found the children sleeping in their bedroom with Chilel-Niz nowhere to be found. Police said about an hour later, Chilel-Niz returned to the apartment and could offer no reason why she left the children alone with no adult supervision.
Chilel-Niz was charged with two counts of endangering the welfare of a child. She was released on bond with a future court date and a no unlawful contact order with the children. The Division of Family Services was also contacted in reference to the safety of the children.
