A 27-year-old Delmar woman was killed and two were injured in a June 15 crash on Pepperbox Road, east of Brittingham Road in Delmar.
According to the Delaware State Police, Lisa A. Hicks, 45, was operating a 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt in the westbound lane of Pepperbox Road around 6:30 p.m. and, when the vehicle approached Brittingham Road, it failed to negotiate a curve to the right and exited the south edge of the road. Police said the vehicle briefly traveled westward in a drainage ditch along the south side of Pepperbox Road before striking a driveway culvert. This impact catapulted the vehicle, causing it to overturn several times before coming to a rest, upright, in the intersection of Pepperbox and Brittingham roads.
Police said Lisa Hicks, who was properly restrained, was flown to Christiana Hospital where she was admitted in critical condition. Mindy L. Hicks, who was the front seat passenger in the vehicle, was properly restrained, but was partially ejected and pronounced dead at the scene. Ernest R. Doney, 32, was not properly restrained and was ejected from the vehicle, landing in a grassy area. He was transported by ambulance to Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury, Md. where he was admitted in serious condition.
